Pelvic and spinal pain is common during pregnancy, with up to 90% of pregnant women suffering from pain as a result of changes that occur over the course of fetal development. Many of these changes are due to chemical and hormonal fluctuations that allow relaxation of the supportive ligaments. This can aggravate pre-existing conditions as well as cause new symptoms to present. Together with postural changes this can cause pain in the neck, back and pelvis, buttocks, groin and legs.
The chiropractic drugless approach is ideally suited for pregnant women. Adjustments and prenatal massage can help with alleviating or reducing the symptoms listed above, premature contractions, morning sickness and can help prevent post-partum depression. Clinical studies have also revealed women who receive chiropractic care during their pregnancy tend to have easier and shorter labor and delivery comparative to women who do not receive this type of care.
In my multiple years in practice I have also found a post-partum followup to be very effective in reducing residual lower back and pelvic pain, and helping to reduce the likelihood of recurrence of these symptoms outside of pregnancy.
In this office we treat expectant mothers on a daily basis. This transitional time in your life needs to be as comfortable and nurturing as possible and we strive to make this a priority. You and your children deserve the best of care.
